Re: White smoke/noisy lifter



Smoke on decelleration usually is the rings.  My favorite test is to take 
my foot off the gas downhill at 70 mph for a half mile or so, then nail 
it at the bottom.  If the rings are really bad, you can hide the car 
behind you.  If it's just a small puff and doesn't burn too much oil I 
would just keep driving it.  Sometimes it takes 7 or 8 k miles for the 
rings to seat completely.
