Michael:
I don't know if your "flat spot" is the same as mine, but if I run
the factory timing, mine has a bad one. I have it advanced to
around 8 or 9 degrees, and it runs much better. I tried messing
with the accelerator pump (have aftermarket holley 4 bbl) and
that helped some, but didn't really solve the problem.

If you have access to a timing light. you can advance it for free, so
the price is right, try this one before spending $$. Actually, I
don't even use a timing light much anymore, I advance it till it
pings on hard accelleration, then back it down a few degrees from
that. Too much advance and it gets hard to start. The comments
about worn dist bushings are making me want to go down and
check the shaft in mine, though I would think that dweel would
be all over the place if that were worn.
