Re: New Lifters

Thanks for the reply Tom.

I wish I could have received a few more e-mails on this because now I'm
really nervous. I've been talking with several people here at work about
bleeding the lifters with oil and they are scaring the hell out of me with
all of the possible circumstances. You hit on one of them when you
mentioned blowing up the engine. This would not be a good thing. First
the truck would go, then the other cars, then the house ... The fire
departments aren't really available when you have a real cooker going on.
The closest unit is about 15 miles away and all the water has to be tanked
in. Usually they arrive in time to put out the smoldering ashes.

Since these are new lifters, I'm concerned with the effects or neccessity
of using kerosene.

Uh oh, new lifters on an old cam. I totally forgot about that. Anybody
know how long an IH cam will last after throwing in new lifters? I
remember on an old Chevy 350, the cam was destroyed in about 3 weeks time
with less than 1500 miles put on it after getting new lifters. Am I about
to royally screw up here???

The whole reason I'm changing the lifters is because I found two that were
totally frozen. I placed a load of 300 pounds in a bench press on to the
lifter and it never budged. Possibly this was a major contributor to my
engine crapping out about three weeks ago when I first started to write
about my problems.

Unfortunately I won't be able to read any of your posts until I get back to
the office tomorrow morning and by then I will already have installed the
new lifters with kerosene / oil (???). I'm still looking forward to your
comments and opinions on this matter though.

Thanks everybody!
John Wynne
