Re: 1965 International Harvester

Tucker:

I can't help you with the pickup parts, but there are other "Digesters"
here who can. There are several IH parts houses around, that we all
commonly use. You can find out about some of them, see links to other
sites, subscribe and everything else by going to the IHC Digest website.
I attached the URL but if it doesn't work try:

http://www.wizvax.net/rwelty/ihc/

Read up on subscribing using "majordomo" and you're set. And please,
don't be a "lurker". Jump right in and add to our lively discussions.

International Harvester Digest Home Page

Welcome to the home of the Internet's International Harvester Digest. This page is new, and under construction. Even so, you can now review Digest policies on postings, advertising, etc., subscribe or unsubscribe to the digest, access Digest archives via LWGate, and look at a list of interesting International Harvester related links.

Subscribing/Unsubscribing (aka, using Majordomo)

The International Harvester Digest is managed by majordomo, a highly regarded package for the automatic handling of mailing lists.

We now have a system in place for issuing majordomo commands via a web interface; Click Here to try it.

Majordomo commands may be sent to

majordomo@domain.elided
Commands in the Subject: header will be ignored; majordomo expects to see commands in the body of the message, one per line. Typical commands might look like the following:
help
lists
info ihc-digest
subscribe ihc-digest
unsubscribe ihc-digest bob@domain.elided
index ihc-digest
get ihc-digest v05.n003
The help command is used to obtain the list of standard majordomo commands. The info command is used to get the introductory message for new subcribers to the International Harvester Digest. The subscribe command is used to join the digest; you do not have to specify an email address (majordomo will get one from the header of your email message.) The unsubscribe command is used to get off the digest; you can optionally supply email addresses on both subscribe and unsubscribe, but it may cause administrative delays as most requests that include email addresses must be processed by hand.

The index command is used to get a full listing of all the digest archives; it is in unix "ls -l" format. In this format, the last thing on each line is the file name. Volumes of the digest are given arcane names like "v04.n853" for volume 4, number 853. Note that volume numbers are 2 digits and issue numbers are 3 digits; leading zeros are mandatory to make the numbers the proper length.

Some Policies

These policies are in a state of transition; expect some change and evolution with time. A more detailed statement will be appearing shortly.

Advertising

Classifieds are fine; just don't send them out over and over and over...

Ads for businesses are another matter. These postings should be very tightly controlled; many list members find giant lists of parts and prices offensive, and will not hesitate to say it. A commercial advertising area will be developed as part of the development of a International Harvester Digest web page; suggestions on how it should be done may be directed to rwelty@domain.elided.

In the meantime, be aware that a number of commercial operations have earned significant business and good will by giving out useful and accurate technical advice on the digest. It is perfectly reasonable in that context to mention that you sell the stuff you're talking about.

Ads appearing on these pages

There is an ad at the top of each of the International Harvester Digest Pages; at this monent, it is an ad from the "Commonwealth Network". This has been done so as to produce some income to support the list while I wait for more permanent sponsorhip deals to come through; when they happen, the Commonwealth ads will quietly disappear. To learn more about the "Commonwealth Network", click on the fine print button underneath the ad banner.

Appropriateness of Postings

Administration

The International Harvester Digest is administered by Richard Welty (rwelty@domain.elided). Please contact him with any problems you may have; just don't expect miracles. He doesn't get paid enough for that.
