RE: Flame arrestor

Howdy George,

From what I understand, and some guessing from the way it is hooked up,
the flame arrestor is a hollow tube hooked to the air intake by a rubber
hose to allow the engine to replace the air that the pvc valve is
removing. The intake to the flame arrestor is inside the airfilter so
the air coming in is filtered. Inside the flame arrestor is fine brass?
wire mesh that will seperate out the oil if you start blowing out of it.
(Right now I have a 304 that has horrible blow by, that is coming out of
this flame arrestor and going straight down the carb). My problem that
I have right now, is not the way I think the flame arrestor should work.
Someone on this list just used an 'air muffler" as a replacement.
Easiest thing to do is find a junkyard and scavenge one.

I hope this helps.
