Terry,

I don't know if the single 3" is "optimal", but I finally got a chance to
crawl under my '72 last weekend (after 9 or 10 months!) and took a peek at
the exhaust.

I didn't *measure* the output tube yet, but I can..

Looking under my '72, with 304V8, I saw two pipes comeing from the motor, on
either side.

They came back to just behind the transfer case (I think), then then Y'd to
the driver's side. There, in the stock location, was that nice, quiet new
muffler the previous owner had installed just before I bought it, heading
back, and exiting the driver's side behind the rear tire.

It's big, but I don't know if it's 3" or not. I'll try to remember to
measure it tonight.

Of course, my stock 304 is no "hotrod" (despite 115mph ability).. with 63k
miles on the clock, it's barely broken in, and is still VERY "tight"
