I have coverted 3 engines from auto to manual transmisions, and i have removed the spacer by knocking on it with a hammer, the rotate the crank 45 deg. a new knock, rotate 45 etc. then it should come right off. Best regards Hans Chr (Norway) 1978 Scout II soon on the road
