Re:Tom's shackles

Tom M. and all,
I'm also running old Rancho springs and reciently added the poly
bushings to replace the worn out rancho ones. The previous owner had
loosely tightened the shackle bolts and they had half way worn
through!!! This also caused the shackles to be worn around the hole so
that the sholder of the steel spacer through bushing was recessed into
the shackle. If your shackles are in this condition you will get a rough
ride as descriped by Doug.
To fix my shackles I welded around the inner bolt holes, redrilled and
then ground the surface flat. The shackles now seat squarely on the
spacer and not the spring eye and with bolts tight the ride is fine.
Please don't run with loose shackle bolts.
