Starters...
Dan,
I know of no differences between the starters on autos and manual trans.
The major difference in the front cap (the bell that houses the bendix and
pinion. It's a GM/Delco Starter. On some GM passenger cars, the starter is
mounted with two bolts that go in from the SIDE of the starter. On others the
bolts go in from the back of the starter. I can't recall (my Scout starter was
last out in '94) but, I think the scout has the two bolts from the side. I
think the T'all and pickups use same mounts too.
Should go right in, Good luck,

I pulled the starter out of my 71 (4speed manual) and compoared it to
my spare starter from my automatics. The only difference I can see is
that the auto starter has a spacer between it and the engine but the
manual starter doesn't. Didn't someone say that there was a difference
between a auto and stick starter? I am going to just put the auto
starter in without the spacer and see what happens.
