all this talk about weak u-joints...

All this talk about weak u-joints got me thinking about my mechanic days. On
passanger cars it wasent as improtant, but on heavy trucks u-joint zert
fittings had to be installed correctly. What I mean by this is that the zert
fitting had to be on the drive side of rotation from the engine cup, not on
the driveline cup side. This means that when the engine torques it would
compress the zert fitting against the drive shaft cup. If you install it
behind the engine cup it would effectively be pulling the zert hole appart.
That would cause a weak spot and crack the housing. I know some may thing that
with everything bolted up tight there will be no pulling appart, but it is
true..just like drive shafts spead up and slow down.
