Page 160, 2nd column, 6th line from the bottom:
QUOTE:
"If the angles aren't equal, or if the U-joints are out
of phase, vibration can occur (see fig. 1 and 2)."
The reason you phase the joints is so that the speeding up
of one joint on one end of the shaft is matched by a slowing down
of the joint on the opposite end. When they are not phased the
entire shaft resonates, as both ends speed up and slow down
together.
Does this help anyone with the clarity of my discussion?
