Getting family members hooked
Tom:
Great idea about getting your fiance' hooked. But from experience, I can
tell you there is a downside.
I used to hunt a lot. My first wife would go with me, but she didn't
hunt. I kept trying to get her interested, but she didn't seem to care.
Then, she decided to take hunter safety with a freinds wife. I thought
this was great. The freinds wife dropped out, mine finished. Then she
wanted to go hunting.
I decided to take her pheasant hunting.
She needed a license. I bought her one.
When we went to the club, I had to pay for her admission as well as
mine.
She needed a shotgun. I let her use my favorite over/under while I shot
the trusty old 870.
Being a "newbie", we gave her first crack at any pheasants that flew.
She got to shoot all morning. I got to watch.
After hunting all morning, we stopped and bought lunch. I had to buy her
lunch.
I think you get the moral here. Having her along was great fun. But when
she started hunting with me, I was forced to spend twice as much money
as before which cut my hunting time in half ultimately. I was using my
old gear that I had saved for years to replace, she was using my new
stuff. She was getting the preferences, I was getting nothing.
Ultimately, my dog started listening to her and ignoring me. I had to
get a new wife.
As my new fiance' likes to say, better watch what you wish for, you just
might get it.
