IH Western Regionals, etc.
IH all,
Just made my reservation for the Tualre event. Who else plans
on going? Maybe we could get the digesters together one night for
dinner? I'd love to get a look at all the mods that have been
discussed at length on the digest. I'm still trying to find an
event list, for the games, etc.
John L, so am I to understand that the '76 Traveler was called
the Patriot, and the '76 Scout II called the Spirit? If that is
the case then my scout was the Spirit. Though it was re-painted
blue by owner number two (I'm #3), in the door wells, you can still
see the red and blue stripes. I saw another II with the stripes in
Phoenix, and took alot of pics. I'm planning on going back to the
white, though the body is somewhat showing it's age and wear.
About all this on air compressors. How much HP does the
compresor take compared to an additional alternator? Why not
install another alternator,to run the electrical accessories, as
well as double for an emergency if the original alt fails? Though
there are already 2 belts on most IH alts, one would have to go to
the new alt, unless you got a belt to run to more than one
accessory. I like the idea of another alt, because:
1) there's a hell of a lot less stuff like driers, regulators,
check valves. purge valves, popoff etc.
2) the alt only requires 12 v in, ground, and 2 wires out, one to
batt etc, the other to ign power.
3) the alt is ALOT smaller than the compressor and a million times
easier to mount.
AND 4) one could easily put a relay on to switch between the alts
when you want to charge alot, like when running idle, and using the
electrics, ie. welding, air comressor, TV, lights, saw, drill,
mill, drill press, lathe, combo machine, cnc, grain elevator, talus
conveyor, whoa whoa,ok got carried away, but I imagine with the two
alts and new one wires, you could get a solid 200 amps at 3000 rpm?
Any ideas?
Tom, with the snow, I still hold that the best is 31s with
chains on all 4. Drives like a tank!
I found a spare 12v lead in my t'all dash with a connector on
it. It's 12v live all the time, and is located behind the left
driver's knee vent. It was in the dash flopping around, and I
couldn't find an accessory there, so I wired it to a switched
kickpanel light, because the floor well is dark even with the dome
light. Any clue? I still have to break down and get the t'all
svc. manual, but the $80 is a big speedbump.
Thanks all,
-Joel Brodsky
