MSD User Report

Been running a MSD 6A on 3 vehicles for past 6 months. The two IHCs don't
see much use, but the 510 Datsun daily driver has about 7000 miles on the MSD.

IMPROVED starting. Must warn you guys that have been thinking that no one
can start your IHC - ie. theft proof design. With the MSD, any 3rd grader
could start it. Once the carb gets some gas in it, the engine lights off.
Don't even need to choke it. At least in the moderate climate in the SF
Bay area.

Did run across one thing on the Datsun. The easy starting was going away
on me last week. It was acting like it had no spark. Pulled the
distributor cap and noticed lots of carbon "dust" on the inside of the cap.
Cleaned it out and the easy starting returned. So, this now becomes one
of my normal maintenance items with every oil change. Spray out carb with
carb cleaner and clean the distributor cap.

I think this carbon thing is going to be common to all of the high energy
ignitions when used with the smaller distributor cap clearances common to
the older ignition systems. That is why the newer cars have those large
diameter caps.
