I think I mentioned in the past that with my Travelall, I consistently
got about a mile a gallon better gas mileage when towing my 3500 or so
pound trailer than when pulling nothing. I essentially drove the same
speed in either situation. It had to have to do with the wind resistance
of the Travelall caused by that square back and the wind stream creating
a vacuum back there that was like an anchor. I later pulled the same
trailer with an SSII and didn't get the same improvement in gas mileage.
Damn, retrospect has made that Travelall the perfect vehicle. Kind of
like my first father-in-law, everyone was probably relieved when he died,
but 25 years later, my mother-in-law refers to him as her sainted first
husband. I'm setting up a web page with some pictures of that Travelall
winching up Surprise Canyon in Death Valley. When I get it up and
running, I'll let the digest in on how to access it. You're not going to
find a lot of pictures of Travelalls winching up Surprise anywhere else.
