Re: ihc-digest V5 #58 Crankshaft slings oil
The oil pump feeds oil to the crankshaft through the main bearings. The
crankshaft is drilled to feed some of this oil to the connecting rod
journals. This oil leaks out the sides of the bearing journals and is
slung all over the place. Some goes up into the bores and lubes there and
then drips back ito the pan. All this oil eventually winds up back in
the pan and is reused.
I've seen some engines where the top of the connecting rod is drilled to
spray oil onto the backside of the piston crown to provide cooling. I
doubt if IH does this.
Does anyone know if the connecting rods are drilled to bring oil to the
wrist pin?
