This extra brace on the wiper arm causes the blade to rotate slightly as
the wiper arm moves. In theory, the purpose is to make the wiper cover an
area of the windshield which gives the driver better visibility... yeah
right! My Traveler's wiper arm was converted by a previous owner to a
standard sweep... works fine.

To my knowledge Mark, you're not going to find such aftermarket goodies as
the float bowl anti-slosh foam for that carburetor. About the only thing
you can play with is the main jetting, and I would strongly recommend you
avoid that until the carburetor is running and adjusted properly. You
should seriously consider installing a rebuild kit after disassembly and a
long soak in a bucket of carburetor dip cleaner. The rebuild kits are
common and available through local auto part stores, but be aware that they
will need the numbers stamped into the front of the carburetor at the float
bowl.

Once you get the carburetor cleaned and adjusted properly, then you can
think about tweaking the jets to improve fuel economy. The stock Holley
2-barrel is jetted for pretty good fuel economy from the factory. Your
severe hesitation may be caused by a failed accelerator pump. The
accelerator pump's job is to enrichen the air / fuel mixture during the few
seconds after the throttle is rapidly opened. The power valve only
enrichens the air / fuel mixture when the intake manifold vacuum drops very
low under such conditions as heavy acceleration or climbing a steep hill.
The accelerator pump is a temporary thing, whereas the power valve works
continuously under low vacuum conditions.

John
