Nor do I. Does anyone have opinions or experience with tank heaters [that
mount in the radiator hose] vs. block heaters [that take the place of a soft
plug]. I've used block heaters in the past but my SII has a tank heater. I
don't know if it works or not or if it will be enough.

Large engines may need the extra heat, especially in extremely cold regions.
You may need to clarify that both elements are recommended/needed. The
sheet may be listing alternate locations rather than multiple elements. I
installed a block heater on a 2.3L Ford engine [I-4] a few years ago. The
Phillips Temro application sheet listed "RR, RF" for location [right rear,
right front] I can't imagine that this engine would need two elements.
Last winter the one element did great when it was below -30 deg F.
