Alex,
You are the Man! Holding down the window-up button for 30 seconds worked
like a charm. Everybody else that emailed me on this one, if you have the
same problem, give this a try before tearing into the door.

Three possibilities:
1. The window motor/regulator has lost its settings and does not know
where the top of the window is. Reset it by holding down the close switch
button for approximately 15-30
seconds;
2. The window tracks are dirty and rubber gaskets have dried up fooling
the regulator into thinking that the window is closed. Apply the BMW

3. The window regulator is heading south.
