E30 shifter stuck when cold?

Recently the mornings have been really cold down here in KY, and I've
been having problems shifting when the car is cold.
Basically, until the car warms up enough, and only while the car is
moving, it's difficult to move the shift knob out of 1st to neutral.
It's equally difficult to shift from neutral into 2nd. With a bit of
force, I can make it go in, but it definitely doesn't feel good. I can
always get it into 3rd and above. If I come to a complete stop, I can
move the shifter in and out of all of the gears without problem.
If it has any bearing, about a month ago, I had the clutch replaced
(throwout bearing was rattling). It's an '89 325i with 135k mi on it.
I'm not all that familiar with how the shifter stuff works, so I have no
idea what could be the problem. Any ideas, or am I going to have to take
it to expen$ive garage to get it diagnosed?
Thanks.
