My Bentley E28 book doesn't list a procedure. For sloppy steering it
suggests checking the steering column u-joint, and the tie-rod ends; says
these are particularly prone to wear in high-mileage cars. (That's the only
kind of E28 these days) It also mentions the strut mount bearings.

Finally, the E28 / E24 subframe has a design flaw that can lead to the
steering box mount breaking . See
