Well I am a duft european driving a E39 525TDS. I do so for years and it is
my second car. The first (an E34) I traded in at 200 kmiles. BMW makes the
best diesels in the world. There should be no problem with the fuel in
winter as it is heated in the fuelfilter to prevent it from freezing. Mine
did have a starting problem once at lower temperatures. It happened that 3
out of the 6 glow plugs did not work anymore. I replaced all of them (they
are about 20$ a piece) and starting problems are over. We have really cold
weather right now at minus 12 degrees it fires up immediately after allowing
the glowing period. I think those glow plugs should be renewed every 100
kmiles or so.
kind regards,
