losing battle E36 window motor??

hi fellows,
yesterday while raising my passenger window, it made some clanking sounds at the top.. then, again when i lowered it and it reached the bottom... i tried a few more times and then it did not want to go up, kept trying and the noise got worse... are my gears stripped? do i need a new motor? please help... how much is it to repair this window? the window did finally go up but it sounds like something is slipping...
