re: //factory alignment specs
re: //Factory Alignment Spec
I've been watching with interest as this thread has progressed.
Other than the dribble attacking my initial assertion, which I promptly
file in /dev/null,
I'm glad to see so many owners concerned about just what alignment is
put on their BMWs. this rather than hearing that their car is "within
specs" and thinking their handling is optimized.
Do you know how wide the range of alignment is that your car can
have and still be within factory specs?
No tell me, how wide is it?
Its so wide that the difference within factory specs between the
most favorable, and the least favorable alignment, all still within
factory specs, can equal at least a half a second of time per minute on
an autocross run. An easily noticeable difference in handling on the
street.
And this is still within normal ranges of tire wear, steering
response, and road feel.
I've decided not to post my street alignment yet, but would like to
see the alignment numbers that others have received, since what I say
might not necessarily be good for your car depending on the other
specifics of your suspension. Also, please indicate if your car has
been lowered, what type of alignment rack was used, and the level of
shop, eg a Wheel Works or Pep Boys versus a high end shop such as Dinan
or Body Motion.
Submitted for your consideration,
in the Alignment Zone.
