Re: E36 Lifters change

Alex,

thanks for your response. The irs a loud tick on the engine of my car, that
does not go away when it warms up. It can get very loud. It is most
noticeable at idle. While idling, it may go away if I accelerate, but then
it comes back. The mechanic said it is the lifters, and that is not
inconsistent with other info I have. In fact, the mechanic said I do not
need to do the repair, but that the noise could get worse. It is getting
worse and now I am worried that eventually something can go wrong with other
pieces of the engine if I do not fix it. The Bentley manual does say that if
the lifters make noise after war-up, they need to be replaced. What would
your advice be under these circumstances? What else can be causing the
ticking noise?

Regarding the simultaneous inspection, I assume that the repair of the
lifters implies oil and coolant fluid change, hence my impression that at at
least some of the taks associated with the inspection would also be done
during the, albeit unrelated, tappets repair.

Thanks again,

Jorge
