Low coolant message

Hi,
     The computer in my '95 E36 has suddenly begun flashing a message
telling me the coolant is low, and to check the manual.  However, upon
checking it, I found it was not low. I added about a cup of water, and
that's all it would take.  I then started the car, took a little drive,
and no message.  Temperature gauge smack in the middle where's it's
always been.  Then I pulled into the driveway and upon shutting the
engine off, there's the message again.  I know it's not low.  Any ideas?
