M42

Does anyone know if the M42 engine has a weakness related to the crankshaft
timing chain sprocket, or timing chain.

I'm asking that because I sas in the club adds, a guy selling a M42 engine
without the front cover, and also over the internet, another guy selling a
91 318 with the crankshaft timing chain sprocket broken.
Is this pure coincidence?
