He's been told about $3-4,000 for the restoration (needs paint, and it
got rear ended--damaging the trunk lid and rear panel).
So, my question on his behalf--is it worth it? If he did fix it up,
what could he sell it for (his intention), versus just selling it as
is--what might it fetch from an enthusiast willing to do the work on
it? Recaro seats, newish shocks

It all "depends"....it's called "passion"....does your friend have it for
2002's or is it just a "car"? I've seen guys spend more to save a car than
the car is worth (like yours truly)...I have a wrecked '72tii that I didn't
have the heart to part out...so it sits in the garage...btw, the front on
mine is wrecked...the rear is perfect!....did you say the rear on your
friend's '72tii was wrecked? :-)
Price depends on many factors...a very nice "almost perfect" tii will only
bring about $10k....your friend will be lucky to get $5k to $6 it sounds like
(after the repair)...but again, much depends on condition, rust, etc.
