re: Complaints about dealer, HID retrofit

re: Complaints about dealer.
Seems a lot of the labor charge for an Inspection is to 'Check' a
bunch of items.
So the mechanic goes down the sheet and makes a check mark next to each
one. Sad but true.
Take a look at your PDI sheet or the paperwork of your last oil service
or Inspection. Look like the items were checked one at a time? The
cable on the gas tank should have been spotted at the PDI before the car
was ever delivered.
Belts not checked for cracking? Belts are a quick 1.5 hours
customer pay to a dealer mechanic, while they take only 15 minutes or
less for a skilled tech to change. They still won't take the minutes to
take a look.
When picking up my car from Dinan from a recent free oil change
offer, they measured wear on the pads and rotors, checked each bulb, did
a readout on the DSC for engine faults, and several other 'Check' type
items that the dealers never bother with.
So on the west coast too, dealer service is far inferior to numerous
professional independants available.
If you're on the SF Peninsula, if you need something done right good
bets to try are Stanford European, Reitmeier's, and Dinan. There are
others, just these are the three I've experienced personally. All have
labor rates less than the dealers and don't gouge parts at over list
prices to then give you a club discount which still leaves the parts
prices above factory list.
