Re: E30 door lock help, please

Roger,

Whenever I had this happen on my E30 318i (1985), it was one of two things:

1) Door not closed completely
2) Lock not closing completely

For #1, I found that if I lightly closed a door (so it "just" latched), that
I would have this problem. Opening the door and shutting it with more force
seemed to fix it, so perhaps the lock mechanism inside the door is slightly
mis-aligned.

For #2, I found that the signal to lock a door (front passenger door, in my
case), wasn't always sufficient to completely lock the right front door, so
the system would treat it like locking the doors and immediately pulling up
the front door lock knob inside the car, which unlocks all doors on the car.
Fixing this one involved pulling the large connector inside the door jamb
(that connects all wiring from the chassis to the door), and liberally
spraying it with contact cleaner. In some cases, you may need to CAREFULLY
adjust the female contacts to more tightly grip the pins of the male
contacts. If you check a wiring diagram, you'll be able to identify which
pins carry the door lock signal.

Hope this helps.
