E30 door lock help, please

I own a '91 318is and over the last few days, the locking mechanism is
acting up. When I attempt to lock the car, it locks and then unlocks itself
immediately afterwards. If I lock the car from inside, no problem. If I use
the key from any exterior lock, it won't stay locked. Any help, either in
the digest or directly, will be appreciated. TIA
