Transmission not shifting smoothly e28

My 1988 535is automatic (127K) is not shifting properly.  The problem is the shift from 1st
to 2nd.  About half the time, the transmissinos shifts properly.  The other half of the
time, the transmission seems to shift from 1st to 2nd with a clunky fast shift.  All other
functions work properly.

The local dealer says that the transmission is on the way out.  I don't know.  Does any one
have a clue on this one.  Thanks, Tom
