Ha...ha..ha...you are in for a real treat....be prepared to crawl into the 
trunk and become a contortionist...it is a very tough job.  I really don't 
have any advice other than to be careful when using pliers to "not" ding the 
sheet metal in the area of the hinges and spring...very easy to do.

Check the E28 5 series Factory Repair Manual, and possibly The Bentley.
