Re: Car Won't Start

I had a starting problem with my car (twice). Once it was the plugs
which I knew should have been replaced, but I procrastinated. The
second time it was a dead fuel pump. This, or something else related to
the fuel system, makes more sense given your symptoms. The fuel
injection system requires a high pressure supply of fuel, about 100
psi. So if your pump is weak, then the system won't work. So if you
have a weak pump and let the car sit idle for a few days, it's possible
that the fuel lines lost pressure and the pump can no longer bring it
back up. Apparently a fuel pump failure on an E36 at 80,000+ miles is
not uncommon. I don't know if there's an accumulator in the fuel
system, but that would be another possibility.

Hope this helps.
