wheel sizes / air boxes

I have a 93 325is with stock 15" wheels. I've been thinking about upsizing
to 17" wheels or so. Anyone have any recommendations? Any problems with 17"
on a 325 without any suspension mods? Any tire recommendations? I've been
looking at the Pirelli P7000 (currently running P6000, and formerly P7s on a
635csi--I really like the Pirellis, but I'm open to suggestions)
Also, on the 93, is the stock air box pretty "open" inside? I went to a
BMW/SLC club meeting over the weekend and Jim Conforti spoke about intake
systems. He showed a stock E36 airbox, which had a panel about 2/3 of the
way back from the front of the air box on the fender side of the filter, and
another on the opposite side along with a triangular resonator to eliminate
noise. It essentially made for a convoluted air path. My airbox doesn't
have any of that--its pretty much open inside. I'm trying to determine ahead
of time if a cone filter (specifically one from www.sharkinfested.com) would
add that much to the intake system. Any thoughts? I already am running a K&N
and have a Conforti chip in it.
