Driving school prep

Chris Hanson asks about prep for driving school -

Chris:

Your BMW CCA chapter should have supplied you with a list of what will be
checked in the pre-school tech. If they didn't, ask for a list.

You need to add draining, refilling & bleeding of your brake fluid to your
list. One of the first things checked will be the clarity of your brake
fluid. And, for your own safety, you should do that. For my street/race
car, I change it at least once a year.

In addition, go over your suspension very carefully. Make sure there are no
loose or worn fittings, nuts, etc.

Check with other owners of cars like yours, with tires like yours for the
optimal tire pressures. When I last ran in a BMW CCA school, all 4 tires
had different pressure - from 45 down to 30 pounds. That produced
completely neutral handling on Lime Rock's 1.53 miles of all right turns but
one.

Lastly, pay close attention to your instructors. And, keep your wits about
you every time you are on the track. Your safety & that of the others on
the track depend on that. Avoid the "Red Mist" at all costs.
