Re: Heater filter?



Bill,

I just replaced the filter in my '93 525iT.  It's actually underneath the 
center of the dash, right behind the AC condenser.

To remove it, you must first remove the glovebox (remarkably easy), then 
remove the plastic trim to the left of the glovebox opening, then remove the 
right-side air duct.  You'll see a vertical "door" with a latch.  Remove the 
door, and you'll see the filter.  Pull out the filter, vacuum out the slot 
where the filter installs (there'll be lots of crud in there) install the 
new filter, and reassemble everything.

The filter in my car was absolutely FILTHY, even though I had a shop perform 
an Inspection I last year (the filter is supposed to be replaced at 
Inspection I and Inspection II).  I don't think the filter had been 
replaced...EVER!

My car no longer has stinky air blowing from the air vents, either.
