1989 BMW 750il

This weekend I went to see a 1989 750il when I called
the seller I asked if this was a v12 and he said he
thought it was a v8. When I got to the seller's place
and we opened the hood the car had a 3.5 6cyl.
Did 750s come with 3.5 sixes??
