The 6-disc in my E36, which came with it, is made by Alpine and rebadged by
BMW. It's my third Alpine changer; in my experience, the Alpine gives the
fastest changes and is the most resistent to skipping. I've gone over
railroad tracks at a decent clip and not missed a beat on the CD. I also
have an Alpine in my boat and it also never misses a beat even when hitting
heavy waves. All three changers have been trouble-free (the first one is a
Honda I sold to my bud; he still has it and it's going strong after five
years).

Moral of the story: you get what you pay for.
