As a first try, get some component cleaner spray from Radioshack, made specifically for this. Do whatever
you need to to be able to spray it into the pot, and see what happens. It might fix the problem. As far as
serviceability, not familiar with this specific radio, but some pots can be opened and cleaned/tightened
up.

I'm sure it's a bad reostat but before I go in and try to take it apart, can
anyone tell me if this is a repairable part? Anyone try it before and have
pointers for me? Or, do I have to replace the entire unit?
