BOSCH coil drive transistor....... help?

Most Motronic ECUs use a BOSCH Part #1012 as its coil drive transistor. It
is a "selected" or "special" part for some reason? It appears to be just a
NPN Switching Transistor. Nothing special?????? Does anyone have the BOSCH
part spec.?
What substitutes have others been using for this part? Thanks in advance....
