E36 Windshield Replacement

My '93 windshield has had it from the New England winters- sand has done its 
thing, pitting it so that driving into the sun is getting to be dangerous for 
my (and others) health.  In Rhode Island we don't have the full insurance 
coverage for windshields as I have heard of  in other states, so I'm 
contemplating a non-OEM replacement.  I'd appreciate any suggestions based on 
your experience using a non-BMW glass provider.
