RE: E34 525i (1990) Suspension Kit

One thing many people need to take into account is the total suspension
design, some times using softer shocks with stiffer springs will actually
hurt ride quality, instead of improve it. For example, I run Extremely stiff
shocks with stock springs and my ride is actually better then stock (unless
the movement is fast) like a pothole or speed bump, then since I use
bilsteins it is the nature of those shocks and their auto-adjusting nature
to stiffen up when they feel it is needed. In 99.9% of the time the
Bilsteins Are correct and will dampen the shock appropriately, the other .1
will be too stiff. I know WAY too many friends with upgraded suspensions
without proper dampening Complaining over the smallest bump... so BEWARE
you may make your ride worse. With that said the Bilstein is a superior
design and should be retained.. monotube high pressure gas shocks are the
way to go, your telling me that going to a dual tube low pressure hydraulic
shock will help the situation is ludicrous koni has been using the same
technology for 50+ years bilstein design is more modern and an improvement
in all but cost aspect, e.g. koni's can be built, bought, and. revalved
cheaper...

Please contact Michael G. O'Callaghan, he is Irish but don't hold that
against him he has a PHD from MIT and is the GOD of shock tuning, not to
mention one heck of a guy to talk to.. His company is www.hotshox.com or
call him @ 814-774-8808...

Subject: E34 525i (1990) Suspension Kit

I am in the midst of changing my shock absorbers to Koni Sport Adjustable
for my 90 E34 525i (12 valve) and
was wondering if anyone knows if the Koni's can be used with Bilstein Sport
Springs. I am currently using
Bilstein Sport Suspension (Spring and Shocks) and I find the ride too harsh
and want to try Koni's. Can the Bilstein
Spring I have now be used with the Koni Sport Shocks?. Will this be a good
combination or is there a recommended
combination of shocks and springs for the Koni's?.

For those whom is using Koni's on their E34's, can I get an opinion on how
is the ride quality and the handling. I
am thinking of setting the Koni's to soft setting once I get them on coz
around where I am there r heaps of potholes
and a stiff suspension really makes a harsh ride. Not to mention more easily
dented alloy rims!.

Any opinions/recommendations appreciated. TIA.
