Tire size question

E36 (98 328is) Stock tires were 225/50-16. I went to 245/40-17. There's a
small amount of rubbing at full wheel lock and if I take a dip faster than I
should anyway I can hear a scrape from the rear. I can live with that.

I asked the dealer about the speedometer; it's not off by much. 70 indicated
is 70.4 actual, but I'd like to get it right if I can. He said this is
controlled by a gear in the differential and can't be changed. This doesn't
sound right to me, considering the M3 has almost the same size tires I'm
running now.

What say y'all?

BTW: I went with Yokohama AVS Sports; like riding on rails!
