E34 Onboard computer

Hello listmembers,

I am a newcomer on this list. I recently bought a 1992 E34 530i. It has=0Aa=
 digital clock and outside temperature indicator in the middle console=0Aal=
ongside the radio.
What I am interested in, is the possibility to replace this fairly useless=
=0Agadget with a complete onboard computer.
Does anyone have such experience? Can I make a direct replacement (provided=
=0Athe slot and wiring and connector match) or does it involve bigger mods?=
=0AOr is it impossible?
