Paint Chips (arg!)

Hi all,

I've had my 323i for about 3 weeks now and have already noticed a paint 
chip. I do a lot of highway driving and that's probably how the chip got 
there. My '96 318i (God rest it's soul) looked like it had been through a 
war when I traded it in. Do dealerships fix this? How much does fixing a 
chip usually run? Finally, does that 3M clear sheet really work to protect 
against chips?
