I think you could get that through a fairly simple software/hardware
solution: 1) program the turn stalk so that the first click displays the
temperature and 2) add a simple one-shot circuit that grounds the OBC turn
stalk input when you turn on the ignition. I suspect a good automotive
electronics shop might sell a compatible one-shot relay.
