Digesters,
I thought I would share this story with respective owners:
Car: 1995 540IA
Problem: Key (Keyless entry model) was submerged in water after
capsizing a water vessel.
I got back to shore realized this and removed the batteries from the
unit and allowed it to dry. The alarm system was armed and could not be
disarmed using the unit. Contacted BMW (roadside ass.) who gave me a
number of techniques to try to attempt to disable the alarm. None of
these suggested techniques worked - I could enter the car however the
alarm would continue to sound even when the key was inserted into the
ignition. Also tried to reinitialize the key and even couriered the
spare to my location....no luck!
To cut a long story short the car had to be towed 170 km to my dealer
who told me that they had to reprogram the control unit (behind the
radio). The alarm system can now be disengaged when the master key is
inserted into driver's side door and opened. I asked if this was a
change against the factory setting, and they replied - Yes.
Any thoughts????
