performance parts and upgrades on 2.7 liter

     hello list,  I have a 1984 528e motor that is losing compression.  I 
want to take the motor out and have it rebuilt but I am not sure what i can 
do with it to add more than factory horsepower.  If anyone has built up a 
2.7 liter or knows where I can find parts and horsepower that would be great 
if you could help me out.
