paint removal from bumper

My '72 2002 had the chrome bumpers painted the same as the body color by a
previous owner. (Weren't the '80s great!!!!) Any suggestions on what to use
to remove the paint (besides my fingernails) without scratching or damaging
the metal? Preferably something fast and semi-effortless!
